DisneySMMoms 2014 Conference Day Take Aways – My Favorites

After attending the first 3 Disney Social Media Moms Celebrations at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, you can only imagine how excited I was last year when the announcement was made that the exclusive event would be held at the Disneyland Resort in California in 2014! I absolutely love Disneyland and haven’t been there since we relocated to the East coast back in 2010. I was over-the-moon excited to have received an invitation for the event this year, and although it was too short of notice to organize flights and vacation time for my hubby and the kids, most of my family from Seattle was able to fly down and attend with me which was pretty awesome!

Each year that I’ve attended this event, I find it so fabulous to be surrounded by so many wonderful men and women who are just good people. It’s sometimes hard to meet people that have some of the same things in common with you but this is one event that, not only do I meet new people each time, but I also meet people who I’ve interacted with online for years so it’s somewhat of a reunion! Plus, it’s always good for the soul to meet people in-person and get real hugs from them, but it’s even better when you automatically know who they are because of their online profile pics. Social media is pretty cool, isn’t it? I have so many things still to share with you about this year’s event, but I thought I’d take some time today to share 6 of my favorite take-aways from our day of sessions.

Here goes…

1. Mickey Mouse Hugs Are The Best No Matter Your Age!

Picture 1 of 7

Remember I told you that some of my family from Seattle was able to join me this year? Well, my mom was one of them! I absolutely love visiting Disney Parks with my mom.

After we checked in at The Disneyland Hotel, her and I walked into the ballroom together to get registered for the event when we stopped to look around before proceeding. There's nothing in the world like the feeling of walking into a grand welcome reception and looking over to your left [or right, whichever the case may be] where Mickey Mouse is standing by himself looking RIGHT AT YOU with open arms! When my mom and I saw this, we knew what we had to do which was to race right over to Mickey for big hugs and pictures! I love Mickey Mouse and so does she! It was sure fun to be greeted by The Big Cheese upon our arrival! We also got to spend some quality time with a few other Characters during registration! What a kick!

Disney Pixar Finding Dori Coming to Theaters 11/25/2015!!

Oh, WOW, you guys!! I’m so excited about this announcement from Disney/Pixar this morning that I can hardly contain myself over here!! I just want to share the official press release containing the details of “Finding Dori”!

When Dory said “just keep swimming” in 2003’s Oscar®-winning film “Finding Nemo,” she could not have imagined what was in store for her (not that she could remember). Ellen DeGeneres, voice of the friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish, revealed details today about Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory”—an all-new big-screen adventure diving into theaters on Nov. 25, 2015.

“I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time,” said DeGeneres. “I’m not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating ‘Toy Story 16.’ But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It’s got a lot of heart, it’s really funny, and the best part is—it’s got a lot more Dory.”

Director and Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton takes audiences back to the extraordinary underwater world created in the original film. “There is no Dory without Ellen,” said Stanton. “She won the hearts of moviegoers all over the world—not to mention our team here at Pixar. One thing we couldn’t stop thinking about was why she was all alone in the ocean on the day she met Marlin. In ‘Finding Dory,’ she will be reunited with her loved ones, learning a few things about the meaning of family along the way.”

According to Stanton, “Finding Dory” takes place about a year after the first film, and features returning favorites Marlin, Nemo and the Tank Gang, among others. Set in part along the California coastline, the story also welcomes a host of new characters, including a few who will prove to be a very important part of Dory’s life.

Finding Nemo” won the 2003 Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature; the film was nominated for three additional Oscars® (Best Writing, Original Screenplay; Best Music, Original Score; Best Sound Editing). It was also nominated for a Golden Globe® Award for Best Motion Picture–Comedy or Musical. In 2008, the American Film Institute named “Finding Nemo” among the top 10 greatest animated films ever made. At the time of its release, “Finding Nemo” was the highest grossing G-rated movie of all time. It’s currently the fourth highest grossing animated film worldwide. The film has more than 16 million Likes on Facebook, and Dory—with more than 24 million—is the most Liked individual character from a Disney or Disney•Pixar film.

Are you excited or what?!

Disney Infinity ~ The Countdown Has Begun #DisneyInfinity

Hi everyone! Have you heard the great news from Disney Interactive? There is an unbelievably cool new video game coming out soon! Disney Infinity is the name, and collecting unique characters, vehicles, and gadgets for your “Toy Box” is the game! There are so many new and exciting aspects of this game that make it stand out like no other video game has before.

I, for one, am really excited because our family’s favorites are ALL in the game! My hubby LOVES Jack Sparrow, my son’s VERY favorite Character is Jack Skellington, my daughter loves Violet from The Incredibles, and I love them all! Woo Hoo!!

Here is the official, VERY FUN trailer showing some of your favorite Disney and Pixar Characters in their own worlds as well as worlds that you’ll be able to create using your own imagination!

Did you see the look on Jack Sparrow’s face when he saw the Evil Emperor Zurg? I about fell out of my chair laughing at his expression. I CANNOT wait to play this game! Thank goodness it will be available on different gaming platforms because we *may* need one for our Wii as well as our XBox! LOL!

I also want to share some of Disney Interactive’s official announcement of the upcoming game earlier this month:

In a way that only Disney can, Disney Infinity integrates collectible character figures that come to life in the game. These figures provide experiences that are true to these characters and stories, as well as the opportunity to bring characters from various Disney and Pixar films to play together in a virtual “Toy Box.” This all-new game universe will launch in June across all consoles and will have a phased roll out across mobile and online devices throughout 2013.

Throughout each story-driven experience, called a “Play Set,” players will solve challenging puzzles, battle enemies and explore iconic locations from famous Disney properties, while collecting unique characters, vehicles, and gadgets from each world and saving them to a virtual “Toy Box.” Players can access their “Toy Box” and build and customize their own unique virtual world using their favorite characters, vehicles, settings and accessories. Disney Infinity allows players the opportunity to share these unique creations in the “Toy Box” mode with friends both online and off.

The Disney Infinity Platform includes: * Disney Infinity Interactive Pieces – Initially a line of 40 collectible interactive pieces will be introduced that allow players to expand and customize their play experiences. * Disney Infinity Interactive Character Figures – Seventeen character figures will allow players to experience a variety of their favorite characters in true to property experiences and in “Toy Box” mode. * Disney Infinity Base – When figures are placed on the Infinity base, they unlock the world and play experiences of Disney Infinity. * Disney Infinity Power Discs – Interactive discs can be placed on the Infinity base to power up characters and “Toy Box” with unique powers, customizations and gadgets.

A Scottish Dance and Fun Glossary From Disney Pixar BRAVE

A Scottish Dance and Fun Glossary
From Disney Pixar BRAVE

With BRAVE opening in less than 3 weeks (June 22nd) I wanted to share a fun Scottish Dance along with a Glossary of really fun words that I’m sure both you and your kids will get a kick out of!

A story set in Scotland would be jiggery pokery without its share of Scottish words and phrases. And crivens, “BRAVE” has plenty! But it would all be for naught unless accompanied by a proper glossary, so here goes…

AUTOCHTHONOUS
Indigenous, native
Taught to filmmakers by Emma Thompson (voice of Queen Elinor), who used it to
describe “Brave’s” Castle Dunbroch because it appears to have grown right out of the
earth.

BLUE WODE

paint their bodies
Lord MacGuffin and Young MacGuffin paint their bodies in blue wode to proclaim that
they are ready for battle at any moment.

BRAE

BUNCH OF GALOOTS
Many fools
• galoot = clumsy, oafish person

large crowds, a carnyx was used during wartime to send troops into battle.

Wow! You’re cool or ferocious or tough!
• crivens = expression of surprise or shock

DANCING TATTY BOGLE

DORIC

Elgin native Kevin McKidd (voice of MacGuffin and Young MacGuffin), who learned
Doric from his grandfather, proposed to filmmakers for Young MacGuffin to speak the
incomprehensible dialect in “Brave.”

DREADFUL COLLYWOBBLES
Unwanted stomachache or a bad case of the nerves
• collywobbles = upset stomach; intestinal disturbances or a feeling of apprehension

GOOGLY OLD HAG
Outlandish, unattractive senior
• googly = strange, odd

GIANT HAVING A JIGGER IN THE BLUEBELLS
Similar to Dancing Tatty Bogle, something that’s absurd or fantastical

HAGGIS
Though some will joke that a haggis is a small animal native to Scotland, it is actually a
traditional Scottish pudding made with sheep’s heart, liver and lungs, encased in a sheep’s
stomach and cooked for several hours. Often served with “neeps and tatties” (turnips and
potatoes).

HIGHLAND GAMES
Festivals that celebrate Scottish and Celtic culture and heritage, especially that of the
Scottish Highlands. Includes competitions in piping and drumming, dancing, archery, caber
tossing, stone put and other Scottish athletics, plus entertainment and exhibits.
