Celebrating The Launch Of the Disney Junior
Give A Book, Get A Book Campaign

I’m really excited to share the brand new Give-A-Book, Get-A-Book program that Disney Junior launched this week and announced during the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration I attended earlier this month.

I was looking forward to our breakfast sponsored by Disney Junior that morning because my little 2-year old nephew was with us and he’s a huge Disney Junior fan. Genevieve Goings from Disney Junior’s Choo-Choo Soul kicked off our breakfast. It was fun to see all the moms out there who were so excited to see her. Since my kiddos are 12 and 16 and watch more of the “older” Disney shows, I’ve never seen Choo-Choo Soul, but Genevieve was a firecracker on stage and I loved her, so, I may or may not have watched Choo-Choo Soul after my kids went to school. I’m just saying. I had a chance to meet and hug her at a party later that day and she is just a doll!

We also heard from Nancy Kanter, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide; and First Book Board Member, Dr. Martha Bernadett who gave us some insight into this new wonderful program that would provide the donation of up to one million books by putting codes on specially marked Disney Junior books, products and receipts where you’ll be able to donate a book directly to First Book! Once you donate a book, you’ll be given access to a free digital book from Disney Publishing Worldwide for your own family to enjoy. Also, there will be lots of fun things going on locally in your communities at public libraries and Radio Disney events where bookmarks with redemption codes to donate a book to a U.S. community of your choice will be distributed. It’s going to be really easy for us all to donate and to be a part of getting books into the hands of children who need them!

Our next speaker to take the stage was LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow! Now, I wasn’t allowed to watch a whole lot of TV growing up, so it took me a moment to make the connection with Reading Rainbow. But, as soon as the theme song played, I recognized it and it was so fun to hear the excitement in the room and to hear his voice! I totally remember seeing an episode or two…maybe at a babysitter’s house.

As soon as LeVar took the stage, he applauded all of us moms which was so cool! He talked about his mom and about the importance of fostering a love for books with our children at a young age. You guys, this man is so passionate about reading. You can just see it right here in his expression as he applauded us…

I just wanted to get up and hug him! I did some looking and actually found a clip of one of the episodes of Reading Rainbow that I remember seeing with Kermit the Frog! I absolutely love it! It made me smile from ear to ear watching it and how LeVar knows exactly what’s going on but Kermit won’t fess up to it. Watch below and see if you remember!

What a truly amazing man who is still out there doing what he loves so many years later!

After a fabulous breakfast, we met up with our families where we were in store for some more celebrity magic! David Arquette (voice of Skully in “Jake and the Neverland Pirates”), Ariel Winter (voice of Sophia in “Sophia the First”), and Tim Gunn (voice of Baileywick in “Sophia the First”) took to the cozy living room chairs in front of the stage where all the kiddos were hanging out in bean bag chairs to read us a story! It was pretty awesome.

LeVar pulled up his own cozy chair and read to us from the Reading Rainbow app on a tablet! I loved how all of the kids could see that you can still read a book from an iPad or other electronic device…especially in this day and age!

It was such a fabulous morning and I’m so excited to be a part of helping with this unbelievably important cause! Please do everything you can to redeem those codes!

Who Loves Doc McStuffins on Disney Junior?

When I was pregnant with my second child, our son was four and I just couldn’t wait for that day we went in to find out whether we were having a boy or a girl. I was excited when I found out we were having a girl and immediately started dreaming about how she would one day play with my Barbies and all of my baby dolls from when I was a little girl. Princesses, dress-up clothes, BAM!!! As it turns out, my girl was ANYTHING but a girlie girl! She developed a strong love for stuffed animals before she was a year old. Well, fast forward a few years [she’s ten now] and she’s become the official pet stalker of our neighborhood and only owns ONE Barbie doll that she only played with because it was from the Veterinary Barbie set. Often I’ve gone into her room and she’s having tea parties and playing veterinary hospital with stuffed animals…it’s the cutest thing ever. Of course, she wants to be a Veterinarian when she grows up and we are encouraging her to pursue that dream! When Doc McStuffins premiered earlier this year on Disney Junior, I was longing for my daughter to be a pre-schooler again! Low and behold, she watched the show and was SO excited that there was another little girl just like her!! It just tickled my insides! Here’s a little about the show…

Disney Junior’s animated series “Doc McStuffins” tells the story of a nurturing six-year-old girl who can talk to the stuffed animals and toys that she cares for in her playhouse clinic. When Doc puts on her stethoscope, something magical happens; toys, dolls and stuffed animals come to life and she can communicate with all of them, including the toys belonging to her friends and other neighborhood kids.

Assisting Doc at the clinic are her much-loved stuffed animal friends:  Stuffy, an exceedingly proud dragon; Lambie, her cuddly best friend; Hallie, a jolly and caring  hippo nurse; Squeakers, an alarmist squeaky fish toy; and Chilly, a snowman who spends a lot of time getting check-ups at the clinic.  Whether it’s a case of loose stitching, low batteries or a blow-up toy who has sprung a leak, Doc and her pals are there to lend a helping hand, while imparting to young viewers the importance of taking care of oneself and others.

Doc McStuffins” exemplifies Disney’s brand values of celebrating one’s family and appreciating diversity and difference.  Doc’s mom is a doctor who can be counted on to help Doc with her “diagnoses,” and her dad is a chef who whips up healthy treats for Doc and her four-year-old little brother, Donny.  Like a lot of younger siblings, Donny looks up to his sister and, although he is not aware of Doc’s ability to talk to her toys, he knows she’s the best healer for stuffed animals and toys around.

Each episode features two 11-minute stories in which Doc and her friends diagnose the situation and nurture the toy in need.  The characters and featured themes are relatable to young viewers and are designed to ease kids’ trepidations about everything from a doctor’s visit to removing a splinter.  Many of the stories directly address the kinds of issues that parents face with their young children when it comes to health, hygiene and medical care.  In one episode, Doc’s Jack-in-the-Box patient, Little Jack, is scared about getting a check-up.  Doc (with help from Stuffy, Lambie, Hallie, Chilly and Squeakers) reassures him that Big Jack, his dad, will be with him the whole time, and ultimately she diagnoses him with a case of “Can’tpop-itis,” which she records in The Big Book of Boo Boos.

Well, I have some great news for you all! Disney Junior has just launched a new craft where your kids can create their VERY OWN Big Book of Boo Boos!!!! Check it out!

Disney Junior has a new episode premiering next week in which Doc herself gets sick and becomes the patient!  In the episode titled “Doctoring the Doc,” Doc’s mom diagnoses her with the flu, so the toys step in to entertain and take care of her while she rests and tries to get better.  The episode premieres FRIDAY, AUGUST 17 at 9:00 a.m., ET/PT on Disney Channel and 7:30 p.m., ET/PT on the 24-hour Disney Junior channel. Here’s a sneak peak from the upcoming episode…

Our First Day At DisneySMMoms!

My family was pretty excited when I told the Cast Member at the gate that we were checking in and even more ecstatic as we pulled up under the porte-cochere at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Any time we have ever gone to the Yacht Club, it was to have a late night sundae at Beaches and Cream with our dear friends. This time, we were sleeping there!! I immediately saw two familiar faces and practically jumped out of the car before I could get it in park! It was Amy and Valerie! Woo Hoo! And the fun started right that instant!

Our room wasn’t ready yet, so we had all sorts of free time to wander around the absolutely beautiful resort grounds while we waited since our first event wasn’t until 5:00 that afternoon. We were ready for breakfast, so we went over to the Captain’s Grille, which was FANTASTIC! I’ll tell you all about it in another post though. After breakfast, we followed the magical signs leading to the Convention Center to check in and get our credentials for the fabulous Social Media Moms Celebration!

There were some really cool turtles swimming around and a tiny little alligator so we stopped and watched them for almost an hour! The kids were loving the fact that we weren’t in any hurries!

So, I’m not sure how many of you watch ABC’s The Bachelor/ette, but I do, and I’ve been lucky enough to interact with one of the lovely ladies from a prior season! I was so excited to see Marissa behind the counter at the check-in desk, and the coolest thing? She was just as excited to see me!! Seriously you guys, she came around the counter and out to meet me with a giant hug! I was so incredibly tickled and it’s really my favorite thing ever when someone’s personality in real life is just how I imagined it from online interactions! So fun! You can find Marissa over at Disney’s InsidEARS site…she’s the Community Manager for the Walt Disney World side!

One cool thing about arriving so early was that there weren’t many people there yet. We actually got to sit with Jennifer Wilkes, one of the original Walt Disney World Moms Panelists, and she told us all about the fabulous events that were so carefully planned for us. I was practically bursting into Pixie Dust right there just hearing about all of the fabulous plans ahead! She went over everything with us and we were on our way, credentials in-hand! And my lanyard was pink!!

We spent the rest of the afternoon just hanging out by Stormalong Bay, having ice cream at Beaches and Cream, and being very leisurely in our absolutely GORGEOUS room! And I do mean gorgeous…wow! I’ll have my review up soon about Disney’s Yacht Club Resort…just lovely! Now just have a gander at these sundaes…

We don’t splurge on ice cream like this very often, but if you’re gonna do it, this is definitely the place!!! Yum to the O!! That’s a Fudge Mud Slide on the left and a No Way Jose on the right. Someone thought it would be funny to get some all over her cute little face!

I went back to our room to have a little nap afterwards then got ready to go to our “Passport to the World” reception sponsored by Adventures by Disney and Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. I did all sorts of vacation dreaming while chit chatting with my fellow bloggers and munching on some great appetizers.

We were sent home with a fabulous Vinylmation from Aulani as a reminder of the event!

Next, we headed back to our room for just a few to get ready for dinner on the beach…yes, ON THE BEACH!! It was time for the “Swashbuckler Soiree’ Dinner”! I really love being on the white sandy beach at Disney…especially at dusk when it’s not so crazy hot! We walked over to the lovely beach area and there was this fabulous entrance…

I just LOVE how it’s all Piratey! See that giant globe lantern? Those magically turned into lights as the sun went down! So cool! Let’s talk about the best backdrop EVER too…

All in all, it was an unbelievably gorgeous evening, the food was just fabulous, and we had the best time! The Soiree’ was sponsored by Disney Junior and they did an amazing job! Thank you for a great evening!

Private Backstage Party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

After our very fun day of conferences and amazing speakers, we headed over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for a backstage dinner party RIGHT on the Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show set! Holy cow! We actually walked over the bridge that the car drives on in the finale! It was awesome!

We were treated to an awesome introduction to Disney Junior and a description of all the fun new shows that would be on! Even though our kids are a bit old for the new Disney Junior shows, our 9-year old really enjoyed watching the younger kids dance and she even got in on the action a little too! I just love that she gets a kick out of the characters at Disney. She is the one who took this next set of pics of the Jake and the Neverland Pirates characters! She’s doing such a great job with her new digital camera!

I can’t believe how cool it was to actually be ON this amazing set! I’ve always loved this show and being able to have dinner and a party there was just amazing!!

Disney Junior – Where the Magic Begins!

Disney Junior – Where the Magic Begins!

Playhouse Disney has undergone an “extreme makeover” and Disney Junior will make its grand debut on Disney Channel February 14, 2011! Disney Junior is devoted to children ages 2 to 7 and their families.

Disney Junior will encourage parents to join their children and immerse themselves in the Disney experience of magical, musical and heartfelt stories and characters, both classic and new, while incorporating specific learning and developmental themes. Some of the classic favorites that will be a part of Disney Junior include “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “Handy Manny,” “Special Agent Oso,” and “Imagination Movers”. Here are some of the brand new series you’ll be able to enjoy:

*”Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” an animated adventure combining new and classic Disney characters Captain Hook and Smee (“Peter Pan”).

*A series of Disney Poetry Shorts which showcases poems for children set against classic Disney animation.

*Two short form series, “Mickey Mousekersize”, hosted by Mickey Mouse himself, which will focus on the fun of exercising and encourage children at home to get up and move with their Disney Pals, and “Special Agent Oso: Three Healthy Steps,” to encourage healthy lifestyles for preschoolers and families as they watch a live-action kid demonstrate three healthy steps to exercising and eating right.

*”Babar and the Adventures of Badou,” an updated version of the classic “Babar,” that introduces King Babar’s energetic eight-year-old grandson, Badou, and friends as they explore the world of Celesteville.

*”Tinga Tinga Tales,” a vibrant animated adventure inspired by traditional African animal folktales and the art of Tanzania.
