DisneySMMoms 2014 Conference Day Take Aways – My Favorites

After attending the first 3 Disney Social Media Moms Celebrations at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, you can only imagine how excited I was last year when the announcement was made that the exclusive event would be held at the Disneyland Resort in California in 2014! I absolutely love Disneyland and haven’t been there since we relocated to the East coast back in 2010. I was over-the-moon excited to have received an invitation for the event this year, and although it was too short of notice to organize flights and vacation time for my hubby and the kids, most of my family from Seattle was able to fly down and attend with me which was pretty awesome!

Each year that I’ve attended this event, I find it so fabulous to be surrounded by so many wonderful men and women who are just good people. It’s sometimes hard to meet people that have some of the same things in common with you but this is one event that, not only do I meet new people each time, but I also meet people who I’ve interacted with online for years so it’s somewhat of a reunion! Plus, it’s always good for the soul to meet people in-person and get real hugs from them, but it’s even better when you automatically know who they are because of their online profile pics. Social media is pretty cool, isn’t it? I have so many things still to share with you about this year’s event, but I thought I’d take some time today to share 6 of my favorite take-aways from our day of sessions.

Here goes…

2. Tom Staggs Is Always Inspirational

When Tom Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, took the stage, I couldn't wait to hear what he had to say. I've been fortunate enough to have heard him speak several times over the years and he always has exciting things to share! He talked about how Disney's core product is the Guest experience - making memories that will last a lifetime.

Can a product be something that is not tangible?

Absolutely! And, you know what? Thousands of people agree because those memories are simply priceless! Each time I pull up an old photo album of some of my family's first Disney Parks vacations, I am reminded of that "feeling" that I had in that photo and of how much joy my children and family were experiencing at that moment. This is one of the biggest reasons why my family will continue to return to Disney Parks month after month! I'll gladly pay for magical memories that will last a lifetime!

Tom also told us about how the Cast Members at Disney Parks are one of the biggest reasons that Guests choose to come back again and again. Then he said this, "When your job is about making happiness for people, you tend to have quite a bit of happiness yourself." I just love it!

Did you guys know that my love for Disney was ignited when the waitress at Granville's [now Steakhouse 55] took the time to give my family some great tips and tricks of touring Disneyland? Well, it did. It was our very first visit and we had no clue where to start. Needless to say, we came back and asked for her each morning of that vacation and she's a dear friend of mine to this day. Her name is Ashley and she's a server at Carthay Circle Restaurant if you're ever there.

Always take a moment to smile at a Cast Member when you are visiting a Disney Park!

  1. It makes me so happy that you enjoyed the conference and took so much away from it. Loved the recap!

  2. About a year ago I friended you online because we had so many mutual friends. One of them said to me “Jackie gives the best hugs.” They were so right.

So I have to disagree with you. Mickey’s hugs are good, but Jackie’s are even better.

I’m so glad I had the chance to meet you in person and hang out a little bit. I hope to do it again.

Aww, Kuleen, thank you for saying these kind words! You are so sweet! <3 I'm so happy that we finally were able to meet in-person and I can't wait to see you again! You'll have to let me know when you're coming to Walt Disney World next time so we can make plans!

  3. How fun, and so great you got to experience that with your mom! Love the pictures!

  4. Sounds like it was the start to a great time to be greeted by the Man himself. I agree social media is amazing as I have met so many friends as well, always good to finally meet them in person.

  7. I just wrote down Donald Driver’s favorite comment from Zig Ziglar. I had never heard it before, but LOVE it! Thanks for sharing your conference experiences with us! It sounds like you had a blast and took away memories to last forever!

  8. What a great event to attend! Sounds like you had a lot of fun! And you are right, hugs from Mickey are always great!

  9. Sounds like an amazing time! I’ve been lucky to have interacted with Leanne and Gary via social media and cannot wait to meet them in person some day! I bet it will be almost as wonderful as meeting up with you! So thankful for social media and the connection to other Disney loving people, some who have become dear friends like you.

  10. What a great recap of such special event. You must have come away so inspired. It’s amazing how big of a role social media plays in our society today. If you use it wisely it can change your life.
